- B-Jazz International Contest (referred to as B-Jazz) is a competition for young, aspiring jazz musicians, with the aim to discover, promote and encourage them. The preliminary rounds for B-Jazz 2024 are open to participants with the Belgian nationality and/or who have their permanent residence in Belgium. The age limit to apply is 30 years, which means that applicants should be born on or after 1 January 1993. Exception: one band member can be born on or after 1 January 1983.
- The preliminary rounds an the final of B-Jazz are organised by Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz vzw (a non-profit organisation). In this document Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz vzw is referred to as ‘organizer’.
- The preliminary round and the final of B-Jazz are open for all styles and (sub)genres of jazz and participants retain full freedom of artistic expression.
- Applicants need to register for the preliminary round by providing the necessary information (biography, photos, …) and the link to a YouTube video of a live performance or studio recording, be it edited or on the fly (5 minutes maximal). Registering is only possible via the registration module at www.bjazzcontest.be. Material and/or data that are provided via other ways will not be taken into account.
- Recordings have to be original, own recordings of the applicants.
- The deadline for applicants to register is 17 December 2023 at 23h59. Material, data and/or recordings that are uploaded too late are not eligible for assessment and will not be looked at or listened to.
- The organizer will confirm the admissibility of the submission by stating the artist’s name on the website www.b-jazz.be.
- Participation in B-Jazz means the unconditional acceptance of these contest rules. All issues that are not addressed explicitly in these rules shall be settled sovereignly by the organizer.
- The formation of the jury for the preliminary round and the jury for the final can be found in the ‘jury’ section on www.b-jazz.be. The organizer reserves the right to change this formation. The decision of the jurors is final.
- The jurors give their word to complete confidentiality of the deliberations and voting. There will be no oral or written communication about the deliberations and voting.
- Based on the proposal of the jury, the organizer chooses ultimately two participants of the preliminary round as a finalist and one of the finalists as the winner of that final of B-Jazz 2024.
- During the final six participants will perform, of which (without prejudice) one is selected by Saint Louis College of Music (Rome, Italy) and one selected by Getxo Jazz (Spain).
- The preliminary rounds are organised on Friday 15 March 2024 at 30CC/Schouwburg, Bondgenotenlaan 21, 3000 Leuven (Belgium), on Saturday 23 March 2024 at Rataplan, Wijnegemstraat 27, 2140 Antwerpen (Belgium) and on Saturday 30 March 2024 at CC Het Spoor, Eilandstraat 6, 8530 Harelbeke (Belgium).
- The finalists have complete freedom in the choice of their repertoire. The maximum playing time is 40 minutes per band.
- Participants bring their own instruments, amplifiers and other material they need to perform. The organizer provides the following equipment (backline) to the participants: an acoustic piano, a drum kit and a full PA system (including technicians).
- Each musician that plays on stage during the preliminary round receives a fixed fee of 150 euros all-in. Each musician that plays on stage during the finals receives a fixed fee of 200 euros all-in.
- Personal data which are obtained by the organizer via the competition can only be shared with official partners of the contest for promotional purposes or used to send newsletters. Participants retain the right to oppose the aforementioned use of their personal information and can see at any time and change.
- Participants grant the organizer the non-exclusive right to reproduce the submitted recordings and the recordings made of the performances during the preliminary round an/or the finals and to communicate these recordings to the public, make them available to the public or use them for promotional purposes for the benefit of the contest, the organizer or its authorized partners for the duration of the copyright. These rights apply worldwide and the participants recognize that they will not receive any corresponding fee.
- Each participant warrants that he/she is the author/copyright holder of the submitted recordings. The organizer accepts no responsibility for any breaches of the (copy)rights of third parties. Each participant shall indemnify the organizer for all possible claims of third parties in this respect. Recordings which third parties may assert rights to are not accepted.
- Registration for B-Jazz is done exclusively through the subscription module on www.bjazzcontest.be.
